Colombia’s Shakira and Sofia Vergara among world’s ‘most powerful’ women: Forbes

Colombia’s own songstress Shakira and sitcom star Sofia Vergara stand among the world’s most powerful women, according to Forbes magazine’s 2014 rankings.

Candidates are judged based on their net worth, mentions in the media and the breadth of their influence, according to Forbes.

Vergara jumped six places to number 32, thanks to her role in hit US show “Modern Family.” Earning a reported $175m per episode, she is the highest paid actress in Hollywood, reported Caracol Radio.

Coming in at number 58, Shakira has fallen 6 places since 2013 but continues to score chart-topping hits from her latest self-titled record. According to Caracol Radio, she is also on of the most “liked” artists on Facebook.

This year’s list welcomes 18 new faces, including newly-elected Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen and Bank of Russia governor Elvira Nabiullina.

Leading the rankings for the fourth consecutive year is German Chancellor and Forbes’ “first political star from the former East Germany since reunification,” Angela Merkel.
