Ariana Grande, Zedd, Shakira Soar On Dance Charts

Ariana Grande, Zedd, Shakira Soar On Dance Charts
The stars surge with 'Break Free' and 'Dare,' respectively. Plus, chart action for David Guetta, Coldplay and Zeds Dead

Ariana Grande grabs her first Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart entry, as "Break Free," featuring Zedd, launches at No. 4.

The song starts with 161,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan, easily spurring its No. 1 debut on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs. It's the first No. 1 on the sales chart for both Grande and Zedd; the latter previously peaked as high as No. 2 with "Clarity."

Zedd scores his fifth top 10 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, the most of any artist; David Guetta and Calvin Harris follow with four each since the chart's Jan. 26, 2013 premiere. "Break" storms in at No. 3 on the Billboard Twitter Top Tracks chart and No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100.

'SUN' RISE: David Guetta could soon equal Zedd's mark for the most top 10s on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, as "Lovers on the Sun" debuts at No. 12. Hailing from the internationally-available-only EP of the same name, "Lovers" features vocals from Sam Martin, production from Avicii and Daddy's Groove, among others, and a remix from Showtek.

"Lovers" debuts at No. 8 on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs with 25,000 sold. Guetta, who hit Hot Dance/Electronic Songs earlier this year with "Shot Me Down" (which peaked at No. 15) and "Bad" (No. 11), is on tour in Europe throughout the summer.

'DARE'-ING MOVE: Shakira secures her seventh No. 1 on Dance Club Songs with "Dare (La La La)" (2-1). Remixes from Chuckie, Chus & Ceballos, Alex Mind and Dirty Loud, among others, helped Shakira shake her way to the top.

(Nos. 76 and 77 mark an especially musical section of the Hot 100 this week: "Dare (La La La)" ranks a notch above "La La La" by Naughty Boy featuring Sam Smith.)

SHOOTING 'STARS': Coldplay collects its first top 10 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay, as "A Sky Full of Stars" skyrockets 18-9. The song, produced by and written with Avicii, gets further help at radio from a recently released remix from Hardwell. "Stars" is the rock group's first track on the Nielsen BDS-based chart in eight years: "Talk" reached No. 17 in 2006. Before that, Coldplay had impacted the list with "Clocks" (No. 14, 2003).

"Stars" simultaneously holds top 10 ranks on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and Dance/Electronic Digital Songs, placing at No. 7 on each chart.

NEW LIFE: Zeds Dead zips onto Dance/Electronic Albums at No. 4 with "Somewhere Else," marking its first top 10 and best career sales week (3,000 units). Previously, the dubstep-house duo (Zach Rapp-Rovan and Dylan Mamid) charted with two EPs: "Adrenaline" (No. 11, 2012) and "Hot Sauce" (No. 12, 2013).

The pair's name is not a reference to the aforementioned Zedd, but rather to each's initials, Z and D, combined with a nod to Bruce Willis and Maria de Medeiros' work in the film "Pulp Fiction."
